Indesign PCB Prototyping

October 9, 2019 | Blog
One in-house capability that sets Indesign apart is our ability to assemble printed circuit boards. We have found that as our electrical engineers design circuits and schematics and our ECAD team lays out the printed circuit board, it is incredibly valuable for the engineers to be able to walk down the hallway and talk to our assembly team. The extensive knowledge that they have regarding assembly allows our teams to design in a way that is more efficient to manufacture and provides a better product for our clients. On Time & On Budget Our assembly team can assemble both by machine and by hand depending on the requirements of each project. They work closely with the rest of a project team to determine what is needed for each board and how to deliver the highest quality product on time and on budget. Innovative Equipment Our investment in machine assembly equipment allows Indesign to have more control of the design schedule to better meet commitments to our customers. We can have bare boards fabricated and delivered as quickly as three days. We work with our clients to get the parts needed to assemble their boards; they can send us all their parts, some of their parts, or Indesign can do all the procurement work. The assembly team works to have all of the components for a board ready for PCB assembly as soon as the bare boards are delivered – allowing for the fastest possible turn-around time. This allows our engineers to quickly test the prototypes once they are assembled, and make adjustments before moving on to the next phases of development. The machine assembly area includes the following equipment: Stencil printer (solder paste screening) Automated pick and place machine (surface mount devices) Reflow oven PCB assembly capabilities include Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Thru-hole, and mixed technology (SMT with Thru-hole) for single and double-sided placement. This equipment allows for the placement and soldering of components in packages as small as 0201s and BGAs/QFNs with a 0.4 mm lead pitch. To help insure quality soldering, Indesign uses a thermal profiler which allows for more precise temperature zone control within the reflow oven. Contact Our Team Today Indesign can also assemble lead-free and leaded PCBA’s, depending on the needs of our clients. Our highly experienced assembly staff are IPC-610 certified. CES 2018: Indesign was there with lots of tech

January 23, 2018 | News
Indesign exhibited at CES 2018 for the 21st year in a row this January.  The Indesign booth was located in the Sands Expo Center in the Health and Wellness section of the show.  In addition to having a booth in the Sands, we were also in most of the venues of the show visiting with clients, suppliers, and 3rd party partners.  The Indesign team spent the week in Las Vegas meeting with potential new clients as well as witnessing some new and exciting technology. Sensors are all around us and were found in all areas of the show.  The Internet of Things (IoT) was present in each of the areas/marketplaces.  For example, L’Oreal was showing a small body-worn sensor that can detect ultraviolet exposure.  Next to us in the Smart Home area, companies like ADT, Kwikset, and Comcast were showing simulated homes loaded with sensors that interact with people on a daily basis.  Outside of the main marketplaces in the Sands, Amazon Alexa had a dedicated space showing off where and how Alexa and voice control can play a part in our everyday lives.  But it didn’t stop there, we saw the presence of Alexa and AWS throughout the show including in-vehicle and many other personal electronic gadgets. In addition to what we expect to see in the next couple years, there were also some technologies demonstrated that are up and coming in the next 5 to 10 years.  One example of that was an LG 65” rollable OLED TV – the amazing thing is it didn’t look like it would be rollable.  That (along with drones that will transport people, self-driving vehicle demos and scrabble playing robots) make it an exciting show to visit and reassuring that the world of tech is alive and well.
