Services: Mechanical Design: Materials Selection
Indesign's mechanical engineering team can help you select appropriate materials for your product. Our engineers have design experience with a wide variety of materials, including many different thermoplastics, metals, elastomers, and other materials.
Our engineers can select the lowest cost materials to provide the right level of performance for your product. Materials will be selected to meet product requirements for strength, durability, thermal, environmental, ESD EMC, and appearance considerations. The materials can be specified to meet the specific needs of any market, whether the product is targeted for an industrial, medical, consumer, or military market.
Indesign will also perform materials testing to verify that the selected materials provide good performance. This testing may include shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, wear, or life-cycle testing.
Typical materials used:
- Composite materials
Material selection considerations:
- Appearance and UV stability
- Strength of materials
- Wear resistance
- Thermal performance
- Chemical resistance
- ESD and EMC shielding
- Impact resistance
- Environmental stress resistance
